Wow, what a year! As we say goodbye to 2024, I can’t help but look back at everything that’s happened with a huge, beaming smile on my face. My first full year as a wedding florist has been nothing short of a whirlwind—a delightful mix of milestones, endless creativity, and of course, so many beautiful flowers. It’s been a year filled with learning, laughter, and unforgettable moments that have truly made my heart bloom.
From 4 Weddings to 32
This time last year, I had completed just four weddings as I was finding my feet in this crazy industry. Fast forward to today, I’ve had the absolute joy of being part of 32 amazing weddings this year! From small, intimate gatherings to big, bold celebrations, each one had its own charm, and I loved every second of bringing those floral dreams to life. With each one helping me to grow and giving me something to learn, it’s been busy but so rewarding.
I’ve worked at 23 beautiful venues and created more bouquets, bud vases, and arrangements than I can count. Endless cups of coffee to wake myself up with and glasses of Gin to wind down to. The miles I’ve driven? Let’s just say my car and I are very well acquainted now!
I’ve also had the absolute pleasure of attending three wedding fairs and three venue open days this year. Meeting so many lovely couples and chatting about their wedding dreams, flower ideas, and big-day plans is always such a joy. It’s these conversations that truly bring the magic to life and make everything feel so exciting! There’s something so special about meeting couples face to face, hearing about their unique love stories, and sharing what Jenessa Hawks Florist is all about. These moments allow me to really connect with couples, understand their vision, and show them how much heart and care I pour into every arrangement. It’s not just about flowers; it’s about building trust, sparking ideas, and making sure every detail feels personal and meaningful. These conversations light me up and remind me why I love what I do so much. It’s where the real magic begins!
From Small Beginnings to Big Moments
This time last year, I’d done just four weddings. Four! It feels surreal to think about how far things have come in just 12 months. Every couple I’ve worked with this year has taught me something new, pushed my creativity, and reminded me why I love what I do.
Oh, and let’s not forget one of the biggest highlights: winning Best Regional Newcomer for Wales in The Wedding Industry Awards! I still can’t quite believe it. Starting this business was a dream come true, but to be recognised like that was the cherry on top of an already incredible year. It’s hard to put into words how much this recognition means to me. Starting a business is no small feat, and this award was a reminder that hard work, passion, and dedication really do pay off.
Navigating Motherhood and Finding Balance
This year has been a beautiful challenge. Balancing motherhood with running a growing business has pushed me in ways I never imagined, but it’s also been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey. There have been long days, late nights, and moments of doubt, but every time I see a bouquet come together or a couple’s smile on their big day, it reminds me why I love what I do.
One of my biggest hopes is that my daughter will look back one day and see that even her mum - someone who rarely believed in herself - can do extraordinary things with passion and perseverance. I want her to know that chasing passions is always worth it and that she can grow into someone who inspires herself and others, just as she inspires me every day. This journey has been for her as much as it’s been for me.
Looking Back, Moving Forward
This year has been about so much more than numbers or awards. It’s been about the couples who trusted me to bring their visions to life, the late nights perfecting bouquets, and the early mornings setting up stunning ceremony spaces. It’s been about growth, discovery, and pouring my heart into every arrangement I’ve made. As 2025 approaches, I’m beyond excited for what’s to come. The diary is already filling up with weddings, and I can’t wait to keep creating, meeting new couples, and bringing even more floral visions to life.
A Big, Blooming Thank You
To every single couple who trusted me with their special day, to the venues who welcomed me, my awesome wholesalers, and to my amazing family, friends, and suppliers who’ve supported me along the way—thank you from the bottom of my heart. None of this would be possible without you.
Here’s to more flowers, more adventures, and more love in 2025!
Big thanks to Katie Sweet Photography for these lovely shots of me hard at work!
